Recommendations to
Immediately Improve
Transportation for
Disabled New Yorkers

Members and disability
advocates today
released the findings of
a City Council
investigation titled “On
the Right Track: A
Roadmap to Improving
Transportation for New
York City’s Disabled
Population.” The
investigation examines
the problems New
Yorkers with disabilities
face in using the city’s
transportation system,
and issues a set of low
cost, easy to implement
recommendations for
improving transportation
safety and access.

In 2006, 1.5 billion
people rode the New
York City subway
system and 741 million
took a bus. Operating
24 hours a day with the
largest subway fleet in
NYS Heros & Zeros
The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly,
do enact as follows:

1  Section 1. Section 1561 of the tax law, as added by chapter 596 of the
2  laws of 2007, is amended to read as follows:
3    § 1561. Imposition of tax. Notwithstanding any other provisions of law
4  to the contrary, any designated community, acting through its  governing
5  body,  is  hereby authorized and empowered to adopt a local law imposing
6  in such designated community a tax on each conveyance of  real  property
7  or  interest  therein  where  the  consideration  exceeds  five  hundred
8  dollars, at a rate of up to two percent of the  consideration  for  such
9  conveyance; any such local law shall fix the rate of such tax.
