On May 31, 2007, The
Bronx Chamber of
Commerce is hosting
its First Annual Golf
Outing. Eighteen (18)
foursomes will gather
at Pelham Bay Golf
Course, 870 Shore
Road, Bronx, NY 10464
for 18 holes of shotgun golf. Daryl Strawberry signed
up to play. The course, which originally opened in
1901 with 9-holes, was later expanded to 18 holes in
1914. It was the first golf course to use dynamite as
a means to change the topography which is readily
apparent by looking at the rock outcroppings on the
18th hole. Daryl Strawberry reached out to CEO Lenny
Caro after hearing that the Bronx

Fernando Montejo, Emerging Markets
Manager for The Home Depot is
chairing the committee. "We will be
giving away trophies for the lowest
score, longest drive, closest to
the line, closest to the pin, and
the Bronx Auto Group will have two
cars on the premises which will be
given away to a
"lucky" or should I say "skilled" golfer who gets a
hole in one. Sources say that if you can drive the
ball the prospect of a hole in one is not so far
fetched! The Golf Outing Committee will be reaching
out to members during the next two week to sell out
the various sponsorship packages. Kindly refer to the
"Sponsors" link to find out who's golfing and who's
sponsoring the event. "We are waiting for replies
from other celebrities and some elected officials"
say Caro, who refused to divulge the potential line
up. "As soon as I receive confirmation, we'll update
the Who's who list."
For those of you who have never played shotgun golf,
it's a faster version of the game. Each foursome
plays the best ball, so no matter how badly you drive
the ball, you have a good chance of getting on the
green.
