Gifts Of Real Estate
Donating property can produce surprising benefits.
Suppose you've been considering a charitable gift but
haven't found
it practical to do so. What about considering a gift of
real estate? Why? Because a present or future gift
offers you the opportunity for valuable income tax and
estate tax savings. You can also free yourself of
immediate and future
management and selling issues.
If you make a gift of real estate now and are in the
position where you itemize deductions on your return,
you can
receive a substantial income tax deduction for that
gift. Or, perhaps, you want or need to use the
property for some time
to come or even retain lifetime use. In either case,
you can still make the necessary arrangements now
and benefit from a sizeable current income tax
deduction.

Meth Impact On Homes
As the popularity of meth grow, so do
the problems that meth-impacted
homes pose. While most people don’t
know what meth labs look like and don’
t know what to do about them.
Methamphetamine is one of the fastest-
growing illegal drugs in the U.S. The
problem not just for law enforcement
and users, but also for home buyers,
and sellers and their agents and
brokers.
The concoction that is
methamphetamine includes chemicals
that can be lethal to those who are
simply exposed to them. When people,
manufacture the drug-or-cook- the
chemicals seep into nearly every part
of a home. In some cases after meth
labs are uncovered, the house has to
be ripped apart to the stubs, or even
completely demolished, to get rid of
the dangerous remnants.
Meth manufacturing residue from the
process gets into the carpets, walls,
ventilation systems and nearly
anything else in the house. There is
where the danger comes in, people
who have nothing to do with meth can
become unwitting recipients of its
harmful effects
In homes where meth has been
manufactured, one may find strong
ammonia odors, excess amounts of
cold medicines :propane tanks with
blue-colored corrosion on the fittings
or tampered valves; excess items like
matches, lithium batteries, or baggies
lying around; cookware with white
residue; windows darkened or covered
with aluminum foil; and discolored
patches in yards where excess
chemicals may have been disposed.
Cleanup costs aren’t cheap. They can
run from a few thousand dollars to
tearing down the house to truly rid the
house of toxic residue.
People move in, get really sick and find
out the house used to be a meth lab.
The homeowners are responsible for
remediation and there is no federal
guideline for remediation.
