Say "No" To Surveyors Who Ask:
"Would you support expanding casino gambling as a fund raising source to
help fill our state's health budget gaps?"
Presently, 18% of our state education budget comes from Lotto... another bad
idea brought to you by our elected officials! I was surveyed over the phone on
10/02/07. The surveyor asked for me by name, but wouldn't identify the source
of the survey. I asked him twice, and he skirted the issue by saying "it's a
political survey!" I was more concerned with voicing my opinion than to whom I
was voicing it to, so I went along with the 15 minute in depth interview. I notice
that you have to pay attention to how certain questions are phrased because
some of the yes or no questions don't leave any wiggle room. I actually enjoyed
the survey, and hope that my answers help the decision makers.
The survey included the prospect of expanding gambling in NYS to help fill in
the gaps in the Heath Care budget. I imagine that there must be a lack of
imagination up in Albany if this is the best they can do? What could they be
thinking of? Let's create opportunity for builders and investors to expand
gambling, a vice that destroys lives, so the people who can't afford health care
can get even sicker gambling away what little money they have! It's another
paradox of the American Paradise in which we live in today. I'm against that one
and you should be too! It's a shot cut and an excuse for politicians to not put
any thought into their job...

Survival Of The Fittest

It's safe to say we "all" live in a
consumer oriented society. Each one
of us has to consume in order to
survive. Society, however, has taught
us to consume more than what we
need, including the air we breath
which oxygenates our blood. Why is it
then, that when it comes down to
choosing between something as
important as food sources to fuel our
bodies, versus spending money on
other "things" which presumably
makes life more comfortable,
convenient, or interesting, we
succumb to multimedia influences?
Multimedia is a multi-prong attack on
our senses from televisions, radios,
cell phones that broadcast, i-pods,
interactive video games; and if that's
not enough, every other form of 20th
century printable matter thrown at us
on a daily basis. Consumers fall prey to
mind altering commercial exploitation which
is actually capable of affecting our evolution
on this planet as a species. We've grown to
accept that if we see it on television often
enough, it must be good for us, and because
we are all "consumers" by our very nature,
