TOOLS OF THE TRADE

THE SMALL PARTS THAT PLAY A CRUCIAL ROLE TO YOUR
EQUIPMENT:

In the competitive level, paintball can become quite expensive.
The markers alone can run into the two thousand dollar mark with
the proper upgrades. Serious ballers spare no expense when it
comes to their equipment, and they make sure to pack everything
to keep their kit running. I remember bringing a 1500 dollar
marker to a field once. It was particularly dry that day, and the
wind blew sand all over. Including into the small spaces in my
marker. The sand caused me to pop an o-ring, and because I
didn't have any extras, I could not play that day. I (gladly) spent
the rest of that day helping out the staff and taking pictures. You
can never expect a field to carry all the parts needed to keep your
gear working, so you have to supply all that yourself. Its good to
familiarize yourself with the markers that you use, so that you can
order spare parts for it. Usually, new markers come with a few o-
rings and allen keys for adjustment, but that is not always
enough. There has been times that I had to completely
disassemble my marker in between games, and change all the o-
rings to make it work again. But don’t think that only expensive
markers need maintenance. They all do! Even a fifty dollar gun
needs to be cleaned and lubricated. And if you use it often, you
will eventually need to change the o-rings as well.

These days, before I even pack my markers and goggles for a
game, I make sure that my trusty tool box is packed in my bag
before anything else. Because I have several marker setups, I
need different rebuild kits for each of them. I make sure that I
have several of each kind, to make sure my gear performs at
peak levels. There is no such thing as having too many spare
parts. I had to go through trial and error to know whats needed,
and I compiled a list of what I personally keep in my toolbox. What
you may need in your box may vary from mines, but ALL paintball
marker kits should included: black electrical tape, silicone tape,
duct tape, assorted metric and hex allen keys, flat head and
Phillip screwdrivers, wrenches, vice grips, needle nose pliers,
standard pliers, paintball gun grease, paintball gun oil (NEVER
USE OIL ON YOUR NITROGEN TANK FILL NIPPLE. IT MAY
EXPLODE! More on this later this week. Additionally, I carry:
spare screws, extra o rings of all sizes and extra batteries for
hoppers and markers. While this may seem like a lot, everything
mentioned here is necessary to keep my markers working. Take
the time to review your paintball toolbox, and you will be ready for
anything that comes your way. Do you have a technical marker
question? Is your marker not functioning properly? Talk to us! We
will be glad to help! Team BPS welcomes any paintball related
question that you might have.
