2006: The End Of A Wonderful Paintball Year!
By Hector Farulla

As the year comes to a close, The serious paintball competition season comes to an end as
well. Most paintballers like myself use the remainder of the year to clean up their equipment,
and prepare their goods for the upcoming 2007 season. But don't think that the sport has
come to a complete halt. Any given playing facility will be flourishing with business, as usual,
all the way to the very end of 2006. And they wont be shortage of patrons any time soon,
either. Paintball gear and equipment tops the Christmas wish lists of players all around the
globe, and they wont be able to wait to try out the gifts that Santa has left for them. Overall, it
has been a wonderful year in the sport of paintball. We have seen more of the game on
television and in movies than ever before, and the hit show CSI has even had an episode
where paintball was finally portrayed in the safe manner in which it is actually played. ESPN
has undoubtedly had a overwhelming response to the Smart Parts World Paintball
Championship aired this year, and there will be another event to look forward to in 2007. We
anticipate that this sport becomes even more mainstream than it presently is. Planet Eclipse
has had an outstanding year with the popularity and success of the Ego paintball marker, and
next year will prove to be even better with the anticipated release of the new 2007 Ego. Many
other manufacturers and companies have seen great turnarounds this year as well, proving
that paintball is, in fact, growing bigger and bigger with each year. In fact, paintball goods,
equipment sales and participation has grown steadily every year up until 2005, and that is
when the sport took an unexpected slump in sales and participation, according to the Sports
Group Manufacturers Association, a nation wide company that monitors the sales of goods
and the participation of all sports in the United States. It has been speculated that the
decrease in sales and participation in paintball that year was caused by the steady growing
number of Americans who took part in the video game console trend, and therefore, decided
to play games online rather than on the fields. But the video game console market could
captivate the serious paintball players full attention for only a short while, for paintball sales
and participation has again, increased , and the numbers just keep on growing. It comes to no
surprise that even todays most popular and successful video game are influenced by the
sport of paintball. You should have seen the smile on my face when I opened my newly
purchased copy of the smash hit, "Gears Of War", for XBox 360, and reading in the manual
how the game play design was, in fact, inspired by paintball after the game's designer had
played the sport, and felt that the elements encountered in paintball would make a great
video game. Today, Gears Of War is one of Xbox’s biggest and most successful hit games,
and that is thanks to the sport that we love to play. Paintballers are more increasingly
becoming video game players because they are finding more elements of the sport in the
games. Not to mention the overwhelming success of Greg Hastings paintball video games for
Playstation 2 and Xbox, and the cult following that it has created amongst the folks who
actually play the sport.
Today, Paintball is bigger than ever, with promises of more appearances in the television
shows we love to watch, and the movies we see in the theaters. More women are becoming
involved in the sport, refusing to let their boyfriends, brothers, or dads  have all the fun. We
welcome our sisters talents into the game and say "what took you all so long?" The new Greg
Hastings video game for Play Station 2 promises to better than ever with a new graphics
engine that will deliver realistic paintball action that you can only find by actually playing the
game.

Paintball is growing all across the U.S., and we are happy to bring you the latest news,
7events and products that are dominating the market. In 2007, we are totally revamping the
forums, so that we can bring you the best that paintball has to offer. We, here at Team BPS,
wish everyone a happy holiday season and a healthy and prosperous New Year! See you all in
2007!
