ONE DAY TRIPS: SIMPLE SALLY VENTURES OUT OF TOWN

Simple Simon met a pieman going to the fair, along came Simple Sally and now they are a
pair!!!" All day long o'er hill  and dale they wander out of town. So where do people go? I adore
Soho, but someone said that Stamford was nice, for I've visited it once or twice. Ah, youth should
never pause from pleasure, fill your cup and trip beyond measure. So does it matter where
we go?  "Not in the least," says Sally with a dimple, my tastes are very simple. So take the train
and away we go."

Pops in the Park finds Simple Simon and Simple Sally first in line attending the free outdoor
concert in Stamford, CT., where Broadway's favorite ingenue, Barbara Cook, the silvery
soprano performs on July 23 on the Heineken stage. Don't miss Bowzer's Rock 'n Roll party
starring Bowzer and the Stingrays on July 30. Joining Bowzer will be over 50 antique cars from the
50's and 60's exhibited around the park. www.bowzerparty.com. "My goodness," said Sally "Isn't
that a waltzing Victorian couple dancing on the corner." No, no, my dear," said Simple Simon, "It's
ENCORE!!! Art in Public Places featuring J. Seward Johnson's realistic life-size sculptures in 53
venues around Stamford town. Visit: www.stamford-downtown.com.

On another day, Simple Sally wanted to take the sea air, but couldn't afford plane or car. "Do
not fret, my pet," chirped Simple Simon. "We'll trip the light fantastic and go island hopping by the
Lexington Avenue local to Pelham Bay in the Bronx, where the City Island bus takes us over the
bridge to capture the fresh sea air." This sleepy island town has much to offer from dinning with
an ocean view in restaurants like the Lobster Box, 718.885.1952 or go casual at the Black Whale,
718.885.3657 or learn how to sail at the New York Sailing Center & Yacht Club
www.startsailing.com. If fishing is your game, go to Jack's Bait & Tackle, where you can rent a
boat and get a map of all the hot fishing spots. 718.885.2042.

Simple Sally declared with a sudden impulse, "I'd like to see a Unicorn." So this charming duo took
a Medieval Journey on the #4 MTA bus for a mere two dollars. Off they went up through
Manhattan past Riverside Drive and then the bus set them down right in front of the entrance to
the Cloisters Museum and Gardens, a division of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The "Captive
Unicorn," circa l500, caught Sally's eye. One of seven of the "Unicorn Tapestries," it represents
the hunt of the unicorn, hand-woven in wool, silk and metallic thread. While you while away a
summer's day, don't miss the new café. 212.923.3700. Suggested Admission includes the Met's
Manhattan building and the Cloisters.

Francophiles are in mourning cause the Tricolor will be lowered at a citadel of French Culture.
The Librairie de France, the 79-year-old French Bookstore, the oldest retail tenant in Rockefeller
Center from l935 expires in 2009. Emanuel Molho proprietor said, "No more, retail because of the
rents in New York today, it wouldn't work." "T'is a pity," pouted Simple Sally. "What are we to do?"
"We will dedicate ourselves to mail-order business," Mr. Molho assured. "In the meantime, take
advantage of our extensive selection of rare collectibles, sale books and antique fashion folios."

Meanwhile over at the Italian Cultural Institute of New York a photo and documentary
exhibition "What the Bag Tells" commissioned by the House of Francesco Biasia, handbag
designers, introduced viewers to an anthropological study of the role, utilization and
significance of the handbag in various cultures around the world. Watch://www.dolp.info/areaftp/
and download the l5 min. video.

So to conclude as they were in the mood, Simple Sally and Simple Simon took in some
decorative culture and visited the Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts,
Design and Culture on West 86th street. Thomas Hope: Regency Designer illuminates Hope's
multiple role as a designer, patron, and author with a passion for the antique.  The exhibition
conveys how Hope fostered the Regency, a fascinating amalgam of decorative details, ornament
and influences from antiquity in art, architecture and design. www.bgc.bard.edu.

Well, ta ta dear readers. It's been too, too marvelous tripping
into culture. I never stopped for the pleasure of it all. Till next time, www.pollytalk.com.
