POLLYTALK FROM NEW YORK
by Polly Guerin

August 4, 2008

Lollapalooza Events in the City...
Go For It!!!

"What's all this talk about leisure?" Simple
Sally pouted. "I'm Colonel-in-Chief of the Guides,
on several committees, and  frequently lecture
with slides. So with this and that, and the garden
you see, my life is as full as a woman's could be.
" So Simple Simon took her in hand so she might
understand, that nowadays with books and plays
and all sorts of fun to raise, New York's a
lollapalooza, "Forget about duties," he said.
"Let's go for it and take in the town instead."

Lickety-split off they went to catch a FREE film at The River to River Movie nights presentation
of that Big Apple musical, ON THE TOWN, featuring those three unforgettable dancing/prancing
sailors on a 24 hours leave with romance and bird's eye view of the city. At sundown, Tuesday,
August 5th, at the Elevated Acre, 55 Water St. Added bonus, two short films by video artist Nisi
Jacobs. www.rivertorivernyc.com.

Think Green, Go Green, Stay Green!!!  Hand in hand Simple Sally and Simple Simon joined a
host of experts for a special conversation on how to love livin' the green at Bryant Park Reading
Room, 42nd street side of the park.  So they slipped under one of the burgundy/white umbrellas
under the cool London Plane trees, to hear the authors including Diane MacEachern, discuss her
"Big Green Purse," a book about green chic ways to save the earth. Wed. Aug. 6 at l2:30 p.m.

"I'm famished," brooded Simple Sally with a dimple. So they
opened their picnic lunch and dined in style on one those little metal
bistro tables and chairs in Bryant Park's upper terrace. Piano in
the Park's pianist, Dan Manjovi, serenaded with lively show tunes
and jazzy renditions all at no cost but the soft breeze of summer to
cool their adventure.

Flemenco dancing is heating up the Lollapalooza festival at Lincoln Center Out of Doors.  "Let's
head West to Damrosch Park," said Simple Simon. "where this Thursday, August 7th  Soledad
Barrio and Noche Flamenca on a double bill with Stephane Wrembel strutt their stuff." Simple
Sally was tapping her feet inching to go cause Ms. Barrio with her firecracker footwork and the
gypsy music will fill the open-air setting. "And it's all terribly terribly FREE," said she.  "Let's go
early so we get a seat." 6 p.m.

"I'd like to hear some really jazzy Latin music," mused Simple Sally. "We ought to save on the gas
and drive," assured Simple Simon. "We'll just take the #4 Bus on Madison Ave. and get off at l04th
St." No passport needed to hear the Latin rhythms bursting with spontaneity. Music is in the air
everywhere and it's FREE. With a new take on Latin music, El Museo del Barrio presents
Colombian band Folklore Urbano, a l2 piece ensemble combining traditional folklore music with
jazz. Heckscher Theater, l230 Fifth Ave., 7 p.m.

Quite done in by the wealth of Lollapalooza events Simple Simon and Sally simply called it a
day.  So do I!!! So ta ta till next week.
