"Banana the Bore, got off her high horse, took a bus, went aboard from Soho to Noho and down to Little Lolita, did travel this way but preferred a two-seater. "Mon Dieu," she flings me an expression in French, her English I extract with a wench. "Get off your high horse," I said with a grin. "Your attitudes a downright boring sin." So with that she finally behaved and the trip 'in and around town' was saved. Here's the scoop!!!
"That Dorothy Parker" is at it again performing at the New York International Fringe Festival. Parker rivals Banana the Bore over the top with "bon mots." In a wisecracking theater review on Katharine Hepburn Parker said, "She ran the whole gamut of emotions from A to B." Need I say more!!! Carol Lempert portrays the perky outspoken Parker with real life drama and suddenly you are there at the famed Algonquin Round Table. At the Soho Playhouse, 15 Vandam St. runs till Sunday 8/24. For tics call 866.468.7619. If you want to take "A Journey into Dorothy Parker's New York" read Kevin C. Fitzpatrick's book published by Roaring Forties Press, Berkeley, CA. www.roaringfortiespress.com.
"Quelle Domage," exclaimed the High Born Banana. "What? Dress down for a cocktail party?" That's what the invitation requested for the opening of the denim store, Seven For All Mankind's new boutique in New York's Soho. The Gossip Girls were there and a horde of other fashion and movie celebs who happily slipped on jeans and sipped champagne to view Tim Mantoani's exhibit "Behind Photographs," displayed in the store's gallery space. To my surprise the most unlikely thing happened. Banana got in the mood, wearing a chic black denim pair from the brand. Check the Manhattan telephone Directory for the store's number.
Talk about "Hostile Takeover" Banana the Bore knows something about that, particularly MoveOpolis the two-year old dance company that struts its stuff in FREE weeklong events on the sidewalks of Lower Manhattan sponsored by Sitelines. Extravagantly costumed performers take their cue from terminology associated with the financial district, as well as several other venues like the dancer in front of Jeff Koons' flower sculpture. The whole wonderful week ends with "Dances at a Gathering," a party to be staged at South Street Seaport on Aug. 25th. Visit www.lmcc.net/sitelines for the entire schedule.
"Quelle Extravaganza," Banana, the High Brow critic remarked about the circus-like burlesque style cabaret, "DESIR." The amazing show, produced by the theater group Spiegelworld at the South Street Seaport, Thursday night kicked off the l50th anniversary of the Paris jeweler, Boucheron. We were dazzled by the butterfly dance and the cat on the tightrope. Don't fret if you weren't there cause the spectacle runs through Nov. 2. For more on "Desir" Boucheron, see WWD.com.
Well, enough of this French slinging talk, Banana the Bore better shape up cause next week's column is gonna be a blast.
Well Ta Ta, and as Dorothy Parker said, "What the Hell?" lets live it up!!! www.pollytalk.com.
