DICKIE-POO SAYS "WEAR YER KILT"
CELTIC GATHERINGS
Dickie-Poo comes from Maine, yes, my dear 'tis
his nickname. His dinner parties are superlative.
Everyone is there, Prince, Poet, and the press
(provided they have a kilt or evening dress). "I'm
off to see the Celtic games," said he. So pipe
away we danced with glee, and sauntered off
here and there to see New York's Scottish
affair. Here's the scoop!!!
"Bring a chair and 'Wear Yer Kilt' at the 2nd Annual NYC Celtic Gathering, Tuesday Aug. 26th
7-8:30 p.m. at The Central Park Band Shell enter at 72nd St. It's a FREE EVENT with special give
aways. I could hardly keep Dickie-Poo from joining in with The NYC Piper with Irish and Highland
Dancers, his Buchanan kilt flipping to the jolly rhythm of the bagpipes. Then "The NY Scottish
Pipes and Drums" took the stage and in marched the Palisades Park Fire Dept Band. Everyone
was tapping their feet in old-fashioned style. For more information: 646.642.2020

Dickie-Poo just can't get enough of this Scottish celebration. "Get Yee to the Staatsburgh State
Historical Site where Celtic Day continues in the Mills Memorial state Park," he said. How could I
resist the great day!!! The Parade of Pipes Bands, the Taconic Pipe Band, the Mt. Kisco Scottish
Pipes and Drums, the Brigadoon's and the Braemar Dancers and the Scottish country dancing by
the Caledonians will liven up any day trip. The Clydesdale Horses will steal the show but you can
compete in the Bonniest Knees contest, see sheep herding and sheep shearing and much, much
more in store for the whole family. September 28th from 11 to 5 p.m. Information: 845.889.8851.
"I'll take the high road, and you'll take the low road" Dickie-Poo sang a song of remembrance,
"and we'll be at the FREE Memorial Concert September 11th at Hanover Square." The New York
Scottish Pipes and Drums Band will strike up a celebrant tune, as will the Comrades Male Voice
Choir from Wales and other entertainments to commemorate the day and pay tribute to the fallen
Heros. New York Caledonian Club for details 2l2.662.1083. Mark your August 2009 calendar for
the Long Island Scottish Games www.liscots.org, a daylong extravaganza of games, competitions
and entertainment.
Dickie-Poo went off on a cruise so that's the end today of his news, but there is more to come
next week.
So I'm off to see the exhibit "Gothic: Dark Glamour," which showcases how high fashion
designers such as Alexander McQueen and John Galliano of Christian Dior have drawn on the
visual vocabulary of "the gothic" to convey narratives of dark glamour. Never mind Edward
Scissorhands to scare up macabre interest, a FREE film event Thursday, Oct. 2 7-9 p.m., there's
also other films on the schedule including the Corpse Bride, Thursday, November l8th. At the
Museum at FIT, Fashion Institute of Technology, Seventh Avenue at 27 Street, 212.217.4558,
