DIVA DIVINE……NEW YORK HITS
THE HIGH NOTES!!!

Tra La, Tra La!!! "Diva Divine" hits the high
notes on an operatic scale and song cycle.  From
the Gari competition and  Opera for Humanity to
St. George's Choral Society's program it's a
musical feast, your pleasure to increase. Yaddo
at NYPL, too. Here's the scoop!!!

The high notes soar in a celestial place at St.
George's Church where Artistic Director, Matthew
Lewis, of St. George's Choral Society brings you
a magnificent 3-part program: Faure-Requiem,
Poulenc-Gloria and Penderecki-Sabat Mater with
Paul Richard Olson at the organ.  Marlene Hernandez, soprano and
Christopher DeVage, baritone with the choral group of support singers
perform on Sun. Nov. 16th at 4PM, 209 E. 16th St. Tixs $25 at door,$15 in
advance at
www.stgeorgeschoralsociety.org.

Diva Divine, opera stars like the Met's Dwayne Croft and Patrice Munsel,
conductor Eve Queler and movie/TV actor Stephen Baldwin celebrate the
winners at the famed Giulio Gari Interna-tional Vocal Competition at the New
York Athletic Club, Nov. 16th. All this in memory of leading tenor and voice
teacher Giulio Gari whose wife Gloria heads up the gala. Ah yes, I remember
him well, took singing lessons when I aspired to be an opera singer. Concert
at 6P.M, cocktails and dinner buffet at 7P.M. Tixs: 212.874.3934.

With a voice like an angel Diva, Amy Shoremount-Obra's "Lucia" at the
Opera for Humanity was a celestial achievement, I became an instant fan.
Along with her Edgardo, the brilliant tenor Jon-Michael Ball, the pair made an
unforgettable performance at the Symphony in Space with the conductor
David Gilbert and a superb orchestra and supporting cast. All this to benefit
The Food Bank for New York City and World Vision Child Sponsorship.
Orange is the color of hunger so remember to contribute what you
can on line at

Then it's off to Yaddo, that Shangri-la for the gifted poet, author,
playwright and composer who resided for FREE at the nation's premier art
colony all because they were so talented. Showcased at the New York Public
Library take a peak into the bucolic estate in Saratoga Springs, NY where the
greats: Philip Roth, Sylvia Plath and John Cheever to name but a few,
created works we know. Yes, I applied, as well as others better known than
me like Katherine Anne Porter and Truman Capote all of us denied entry into
this hallowed sanctuary. And yes, the place still takes applications.

Let's sing to the praises of the Apples, Sausages and Beer Festival.
Till Oct. 3l you can partake of the Gallic event at several restaurants. For this
culinary Tour de France my choice is Pigalle in the theater district. For other
celebrants go to

Let's all hit the high notes. If music be the food of love, sing on and let me hear from you
sometime. Tra La, Tra La!!!
