NEW YORK SIGHTINGS: THE SPIRIT
OF THE HOLIDAYS

It's hard to believe how the year is flying by
but the spirit of the holidays gives us cause to
think of Thanksgiving and the Christmas. Instead
of focusing on the economy there is so much to be
grateful for. Perhaps we can begin to by
expressing our thankfulness. Here's the scoop!!!

Just in case the spirit moves you, now HE can
take your call at the "Prayer Booth" located  near
the entrance to the Roosevelt Island tram in
Midtown. It's the city's latest public art installation
with a "prayer" sign and a folded hands icon, and
if the fancy strikes, the pious can flip down a kneeling pad. Brainstorm of
artist, Dylan Mortimer, a graduate of New York's School of Visual Arts turns a
phone booth into a site for serious or curious contemplation. Only in New
York, my friends.

As we look back on the year with grateful hearts monthly prayer group
gatherings sometimes pray for our country and our world, as does the
Women's Prayer Web
www.womenssprayerweb.com. Sponsored by
Hephzibah House, where the Faithful celebrate the holidays with a "Sing Sing
Sings" tea, which commemorates their Sing Sing Prison Ministry, and get this,
the service is over l00 years old. 51 W. 75th St. Information: 2l2.787.6l50.

Uplifting the spirit is the Harvest Light Festival of  psychics, healers and
meditation at the A.R.E. of New York's Holistic Center on Nov. 22, starts ll A.M
. Just in case you did not know it takes place at the Edgar Cayce
headquarters, 241 W. 30th ST. For movie buffs there's Friday film nights.
Nov. 21 see Pans Labyrinth, a 3 time academy award movie at 7 P.M. Learn

Can't get away for the holidays? Take a breathtaking journey instead
into the "Sublime Nature." An ode to nature's incredible beauty the romantic
paintings of the l9th century Norwegian and Swiss landscapes from the
collection of Asbjorn Lunde on view at the Scandinavia House museum, the
Nordic Center in America. Check out the shop of traditional Christmas
ornaments and gifts. Then dine at Smorgas Chef. The Smorgas Seafood
Chowder is a winner. Location: 58 Park Ave. at 38th Street.

It's "A Perfect Day!"  At MOMA's "Filmmaker in Focus: the Italian director,
Ferzan Ozpetek's" seven-film exhibition. Actress Isabella Ferrari will introduce
Un Giorno Pefectto on Fri. Dec. 5th at 6 p.m. Ozpetek's films are often rooted
in the  tradition of the sophisticated melodramas of the l950s. Films are
scheduled through Dec. l4th. Information:

So, as the spirit moves, it's never too late to say a little thank you for all
we have and all that we can give.  Let's not over indulge the gift giving and donate instead to
our favorite charities this season. TA, TA, only in New York my friends, only in NY
