NEW YORK'S VERNISSAGE OPENINGS 2009

     The New Year kicks off with a host of openings to tempt your sensitivities and titillate your
imagination introducing artists, galleries and vernissages in different venues.  From the inside
to the outside of art there's a rich selection of art fairs, new openings and centennial exhibitions
and films. The offerings are diverse and culturally dynamic. Here's the scoop!!!


Who will be the next celeb talent? Discover artists outside  the mainstream of society--people
virtually unaffected by cultural or artistic convention--who get a chance to showcase their primitive
and astonishing works at the OUTSIDE ART FAIR 2009 at a new local 7 W. 34th St. at 5th Ave
from Friday Jan. 9-11. 34 dealers include Galerie St. Etienne's "They Taught Themselves;
Ricco/Maresca will bring selections by the famed Martin Ramirez and Snyder/Project Space shows
works on paper by Janet Sobel, the self-taught artist whose drip paintings influenced Jackson

DAMAGED ROMANTICISM a mirror of modern emotion has two venues the Grey Art Gallery, New
York University, Jan. 13-April 4 and the Parrish Art Museum, Southhampton, Feb. 7-April 11.
Featuring painting, sculpture and photo-based media by 15 artists from around the world. The
exhibition revolves around a seemingly simple premise: powerful and positive artwork can spring

     Heartbreaking exhibition: "Broken Glass" photographs of the South Bronx by Ray Mortenson.
Jan l0th: Join curator Sean Corcoran and photographer Ray Mortenson for a tour of
the Museum of the City of New York's exhibition of photos Mortenson took of the South Bronx
between 1982 and 1984, which document the aftermath of the widespread urban economic
