The rhythm of New York has a Latin beat. So samba over to the Americas Society where Larry Harlow and the Latin Legends Band, holds forth with conversation 6pm and performance at 7pm. Pianist and arranger Larry Harlow, a living legend of Afro-Cuban jazz, revolutionized the genre with his explosive sound. He has produced over 260 records for Fania and will perform with stars including Bobby Sanabria and Chembo Corniel. Harlow received the the Latin Recording Academy's Trustee award in 2008. The famed poet Robert Browning takes center stage as Barnard poetry prize winner, Elizabeth Anne Socolow holds forth on Browning with "Browning and Vernacular Language: His Influence on some 20th & 21st century poetry in England and America." Event at The New York Browning Society's meeting Wednesday, April 8th at 1pm. Ms. Socolow will provide examples, and go on to demonstrate RB's influence on such American poets as Elizabeth Bishop, Robert Lowell and Richard Wilbur to name a few.
