NEW YORK’S A CULTURAL CABARET

Don’t stay alone in your room, get with it, get in the groove and come to New York. It’s a
cultural cabaret. A program of entertaining events await at the MCNY, Models at the Met, Fine Art
at the Armory and Good Design at MOMA.  Here’s the scoop!!!

IS IT THE GIRL OR THE GOWN? A Broadway Musical Cabaret is the 11th production of the
Museum of the City of New York’s wildly popular “Perform” series inspired by the current
exhibition Valentina: American Couture and the Cult of Celebrity featuring songs from shows
designed by the legendary Valentina and from the extraordinary Broadway personalities she
inspired. Works by Harold Arlen, Kurt Weill and Cole Porter are performed by Daniel Bogart,
Brigid Brady, Jason Graae, and Brenda Pressley; written and directed by Michael Montel, with
Lawrence Yurman as musical director. Reservations required. $15 museum members, seniors
and students; $20 general public. May 9 & 10 at 3pm. 1220 Fifth Ave. at l04th St.

“Roles of Fashion Models as Muse” at the Costume Institute’s spring exhibit at The
Metropolitan Museum of Art explores the reciprocal relationship between high fashion and
evolving ideals of the 20th century and the model’s roles in projecting, and sometimes inspiring,
the fashion of their respective eras. It combines multiple media forms, from panels of magazine
pages of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Life to famous fashion photographs and video clips—from
Audrey Hepburn’s stints in “Funny Face,” to Polly Magoo.  A life-size, three-dimensional re-
creation of Richard Avedon’s Dovinia is a show stopper. Opens at the Metropolitan Museum of
Art, May 6th to August 9, 2009.

“WHAT WAS GOOD DEISGN? MoMa’s message 1944-56” gets you in the groove with
modernism. At mid-century, The Museum of Modern Art played a leading role in the definition and
dissemination of ‘Good Design,’ a concept that started taking shape in the 1930s and emerged
with new relevance and currency in America and Europe in the decades following World War II.
The exhibit presents over 100 selections from the Museum’s collection—ranging from domestic
furnishings and appliances, to textiles, sporting goods and graphics. See iconic pieces by Marcel
Breuer, Charles and Ray Eames, Hans Wegner to name a few. At the same time POLISH
POSTERS 1945-89 from the Cold War era are on view May 6-Nov. 30th.

Come on out to the fair and see paintings, drawings and sculpture at THE INTERNATIONAL
FINE ART FAIR through May 5th at the Park Avenue Armory. An annual event in New York City
since 1994, once again this year a group of the world’s leading dealers come together exhibiting
a superb selection of art works spanning 700 years including examples among the most important
European and American works currently on the market. It’s a special opportunity to view and buy
under the strictest vetting conditions. Opening hours: Daily llam-7pm, Sun&Tues: 11am-6pm. $20
