SIZZLING EVENTS HEAT UP THE BIG APPLE
Take a seat you’re invited to sizzling events in the Big Apple. The stage is set, the presenters
are the top of their class in Haiku, Art Deco, and the riveting production of Boris Godunov. Cool
off and take a vicarious trip to France’s hot spot, St. Tropez. Here’s the scoop!!!
It’s never too late to learn about Haiku. The Living Theater Presents…The Summer Festival of
Haiku on Wednesday, July 22nd at 8pm, at 19-21 Clinton St. (between Houston & Stanton Sts.)
Editor of “The Haiku Anthology,” Cor van den Heuvel and Yuko Otomo and six other Haiku poets
will read from their Haiku works. Baseball hits the mark when van den Heuvel will also read from
his latest book, “Baseball Haiku,” the best Haiku on the game by American and Japanese poets.
Want to participate in the Haiku event? There will also be a Haiku open reading and a Haiku
writing contest. Other poets represented include Tsaurah Litzky, Ernie Conrich, Steve
Dalachinsky, John Farris, Eve Packer and Tony Pupello.
Eaton’s 9e…the Other Ile de France. The Art Deco Society of New York invites you to an
entertaining slide lecture on the wonderful Deco treasure, the famed ninth floor restaurant in
Eaton’s Department store in Montreal, designed by Jacques Carlu and inspired by the Ile de
France first class salle a manger. ADSNY advisory board member Polly Guerin’s presentation
received rave reviews at the l0th World Congress on Art Deco in Montreal…you just got to be
there. Tuesday, July 28 at 6:30 pm at the Art Deco Beekman Tower Hotel, First Ave. and 49th St.
$25 ADSNY members; $35 guests. Reservations and prepayment are required: 212.679.3326.
Reception to follow at Top of the Tower. One drink and light appetizers are included in the prices.
A cash bar and optional diner are also offered.
Modest Mussorgsky’s opera, Boris Gudunov, is sizzling heavy stuff on a summer’s night, but it’
s drama at its best. Based on a story by Alexander Pushkin it concerns the eponymous King’s
murderous accession to the throne. It takes center stage in a riveting production from the
Chekov International Theatre Festival and the Lincoln Center Festival in association with Park
Avenue Armory July 22-26. 643 Park Avenue (at 67th St.) All performances take place in Wade
Thompson Drill Hall. For tickets visit: www.armortyonpark.org.
St. Tropez’s beautiful blondes, those suntanned and sexy ghosts of Brigitte Bardot, roam the
streets and boutiques of this fabled summer watering spot to be seen and photographed by the
paparazzi. The must-buys this summer are bestsellers next year 1210. Get into the Riviera
groove and wear dazzling all white, slip on an Ethnic tunic, wear in-your-face sheer caftans to
reveal a gorgeous figure, tote that oversized handbag and wear long patio dresses right on the
streets of New York town. Go wild on color. Remember bright colors cool down their brilliance
under a heat wave. Or go to the Hamptons and strut your stuff. Save on gas and take the
Hampton Jitney.
Ta Ta Darlings. I’ve become a Deco Diva lecturing here and there!!! Why it’s news to me but I’
m so in demand I’ll be in New York and you can hear me speak next Tuesday at the Beekman
Towers. Remember you heard all about it on the Big Apple News Network. Fan mail goes to
