NEW YORK LITS CANDLE TO BELL, BOOK & MUSICALS
Never has there been so much to occupy one’s holiday spare moments and never has
there been such diverse experiences to enrich one’s intellect. So much is FREE. All you need do
is show up. Well, you can’t blame a gal for trying to improve her mind. Here’s the scoop!!!.
Ding Dong the bells are ringing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art where local
Bellologist, Terry Mayer holds court this Saturday, Nov. 14th with bell enthusiasts discussing
books and poems on bells from the MET’s archives or books owned by members. Right you are
to wonder about this unusual group. Bell collectors are an interesting breed and run the gamut
from glass bell to ancient metal bell collectors. If you’re ready for an interesting meeting arrive at
12 noon on the main floor of the MET and look for the curator holding a long staff with a bell on
top. Lunch first at noon at the Met, then at 1pm the (FREE) meeting begins. For details email:

The International Chopin & Friends Festival, at the Consulate General of Poland on
37th Street & Madison Ave, is a doubling billing extravaganza. The New York Dance 7 Arts
Innovations presents “XI International Chopin & Friends Festival on Saturday, Nov. 14th at 8pm
with a Monodrama “Pola Negri” featured by Nina Repetowska (the play is in the Polish language
only). On Sunday, Nov. 15 there’s a GALA PERFORMANCE at 3pm, a piano recital by Magdalena
Baczewska-“Bach and Chopin: Reunion.” At the De Lamar mansion-the residence of the
Consulate General of Poland in New York, 233 Madison Ave. The events are free and open to the

The Foundation Center demystifies “All about Grants” at their Fourth Annual Open
House, Tuesday, November 17th, 9:30 am-4:30 pm. Go to the Foundation’s Center to get

Florenz Ziegfeld, the man who invented Show Business has his due at the
Metropolitan Chapter of the Victorian Society in America’s lecture Tuesday, November 10th at
6pm. He has been called one of the “most inventive, ruthless, street-smart and exacting men ever
to fill a theater on the Great White Way.” Ethan Mordden, author of Florenz Ziegfeld, “The Man
Who Invented Show Business” tells it all at the New York Church (Swedenbogian) 114 E. 35th St.
FREE no reservations required, just show up! Florenz’s shows featured scantily clad showgirls
dancing to music of Victor Herbert and Irving Berlin, and he was one of the first impresarios to
feature performers of diverse ethnic backgrounds, an early proponent of mixed-race casting.
